Olbrichweg 13a, 64287 Darmstadt

Mathildenhöhe World Heritage Festival with exhibition opening "A Step Ahead"

Under the patronage of Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig of Hesse and by Rhine, Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt was developed into a center for outstanding artists, architects and designers at the beginning of the 20th century. Here, visionary artists sought the path to modernism and created a unique synthesis of the arts consisting of buildings, gardens and sculptures in the course of four major exhibitions between 1901 and 1914.

On June 6 and 7, 2026, the Mathildenhöhe celebrates its World Heritage Festival, including the opening of the exhibition "A Step Ahead" to mark the 125th anniversary of the first exhibition in 1901.

On Saturday (6 June), the World Heritage site will be illuminated in an atmospheric setting, the artists‘ houses will be open, and there will be music, an arts and crafts market and food and drink on offer. On Sunday (7 June), German World Heritage Day, there will be an extensive guided tour program and special offers for families.
